How Master Balls Solve Tough Gaging Problems.

Master BallsGage balls do what gage blocks can't. Like gaging I.D.'s, internal tapers, flatness and more.

ITI master balls are accurate to 10 millionths on both sphericity and diameter and are made of high quality tungsten carbide.

Carbide gage balls maintain their sphericity and accuracy longer than other materials.

With over forty years of precision ball experience, ITI has plenty of standard and special ball gages. We have ball plug gages, fixture balls, checking balls and specials in thousands of sizes. Even in complete sets.

Call ITI today. We can design and produce a solution to your toughest gaging problem.

Master Ball Schematics

Inspection and Measurement ProductsMaster Ball Sets:
Master Balls are made of the finest grade tungsten carbide and are therefore highly resistant to corrosion, humidity and abrasion. Size and sphericity tolerances are held to 0.000010" and are certified to the National Institute of Standards and Testing. All Master Balls are widely used in gage and tool rooms, and in inspection and production departments engaged in close tolerance measurements.

Applications include:

  • Setting and checking external gages and comparators
  • Checking flatness and parallelism of micrometer anvils
  • Determining location of existing holes
  • Checking location of internal grooves
  • Measuring depth of drilled holes
  • Checking internal tapers
These balls are available from stock individually or in sets, calibrated to inch or metric standards.

Inspection and Measurement ProductsBall Plug Gages:
Tungsten carbide ball plug gages are quick and easy to use because they can be inserted at any angle. "Go" gages go freely and "no go" gages won't bind. They are particularly effective for giving a feel for bell-mouth, barrel or taper problems. These gages are widely used for spherical seat and bearing race "go" and "no go" gages. They are available in 4550 sizes from 0.050" in 0.0001" increments. The polished tungsten carbide balls feature class Z tolerance and are mounted on stainlesss steel shanks.

Inspection and Measurement ProductsGaging Ball and Stem Combinations:
ITI supplies answers to special gaging problems with a variety of ball and stem combinations made to precise tolerances. Balls can be any size, and the stem can be any length, diameter and shape. Available in tungsten carbide as well as 440-C stainlesss steel.

Tooling and Checking Balls:
Available from stock in sizes from 1/8" to 1" in increments of 1/8". ITI Tooling and Checking Balls are made of Type 440C stainlesss steel hardened to Rc 55-58. Tooling balls are assembled by a proprietary welding technique that retains the high precision and the fine finish of the balls.
