Stainless Steel Balls

Stainless Steel BallsApplications and Features:
A wide variety of stainless steels balls are available. Their applications are equally varied.

Austenitic types of stainless steel balls, including 18-8, 316 and the patented Carpenter 20Cb-3 are chosen mainly for their corrosion resistance. Martensitic steels such as 440-C are used in applications which require a combination of corrosion resistance and physical properties of hardness, toughness and dimensional stability.

18-8 and 316 Stainless Steel Balls are used in applications including paper, pulp, photographic chemicals, inks, synthetic fiber, textiles and dyes. 316 has improved corrosion resistance compared to 18-8 and is used in the presence of sulfuric, phosphoric and acetic acid. It resists halogen pitting better than other grades and is often used in high-temperature applications.

Stainless Steel Balls18-8 Stainless Steel Balls are more common and is usually used in an annealed condition which withstands attack by food stuffs, most organic chemicals, dyes, sterilizing solutions and nitric acid. It is not recommended for sulfuric or halogen applications.

Carpenter 20Cb-3 Stainless Steel Balls are used extensively in the manufacture of synthetic rubber, high-octane gasoline, solvents, explosives, plastics, synthetic fibers, heavy chemicals, organic chemicals, pharmaceuticals and foodstuffs. Where purity must be maintained (as in the preparation of foodstuffs or dyes) 20Cb-3 is used to protect end products from metallic contamination.

This version offers improvements over 20Cb in that it has superior corrosion and stress fracture resistance to 10 to 40% solutions of high temperature sulfuric acid. Fabricating characteristics, mechanical and physical properties vary little from the original version of 20Cb.

440C is a martensitic-type stainless steel, and is used extensively in bearing applications requiring good toughness, hardness, dimensional stability and corrosion resistance. It is also used for corrosion-resistant ball and check valves. It provides corrosion resistance to fresh water, steam, crude oil, gasoline, perspiration, alcohol, blood and foodstuffs, but maximum resistance to corrosion and tarnishing is achieved only when 440C is fully hardened and with surfaces polished to a high luster.

Remember: make ITI your first choice when considering Stainless Steel Balls. ITI Ball has extensive Stainless Steel Balls experience and can satisfy your rigorous requirements!
